While I was working on the new theme and not paying attention for the last several days, a new game was released by Lucilla. It can be found in the files section under the TADS games. The following is from the "read me" file included with the game. To Cage a Magpie Unfortunately, I am not very good at working to order and having just got the hang of TADS I was reluctant to return to ADRIFT (Xavier’s preference). When I decided “sod it, I’ll use TADS” I began to make a bit of progress but it was many months before I got anything like anywhere with it and I’m pretty sure Xavier gave up on me. If you’re still out there Xavier, many thanks, and I hope you like the outcome. The game progressed in fits and starts over 2005, I would work on it enthusiastically for five or six weeks and then leave it in the cupboard while I was obsessed with e.g. Knights of the Old Republic, or when I hit a programming problem that I couldn’t face. And it was clear that this wasn’t a mini-game any more (11,000 lines of code, not including adv.t or sex.t). The last time I ever offer to write something for someone without taking into account that I have a mild form of obsessive compulsive disorder. Anyway, it’s done and laid here before you. It’s a completely different kettle of fish from British Fox, it’s voyeuristic rather than violent and plot/character driven rather than problem/sex driven. The problems within the game are not very difficult and there are a number of different ways of solving each one; while there is a ‘score’ (out of nine) this is more as guidance for “how Magpie solved it” as opposed to a comment on your progress. Although I resisted the temptation to disable the ‘undo’ function you should never need to use this, if you find yourself repeatedly undoing then there is an easier and cleverer way of overcoming the obstacle you are facing. There are a great may ways to lose though and it is possible to become trapped with nothing to do but wait until you run out of cigarettes. Many thanks to my beta testers Richard Gillingham, Purple Dragon, Germ Waster and Abomire, and additional thanks to Abomire for a couple bits of code he loaned to make it look right. Have fun. xxx Lucilla As ever, any comments/complaints welcome at This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it |
